Knitting the net

The woman is repairing a fishing net. In Dutch we call this ‘netten boeten’ and a lady who’s doing this is called a ‘nettenboetster’.

‘Boeten’ is derived from doing penance, as in repairing the damage.

In the dunes, where the nets were drying, the nettenboetsters used a fine needle and fine cotton to fix the job.

For a long time it was compulsory to wear local costumes.

On the artwork you see all kinds of objects that you've already encountered.

Which object on this painting did not pass by during the previous assignments?
