Bycatch
The first ‘wave-fountain‘ in the world can be found on the square!
It is decorated by Katwijk’s oldest poem, in the original handwriting of a Katwijk fisherman.

Poem
DUTCH:
Todt de eerste klink gaadt
De zeyltyes opgedoukt,
Ent schuytje vast,
Gaad elk naa seyn huys.
ENGLISH:
Until the first latch goes
The sails stowed,
And barge tight,
Everyone goes to their home.
Wave fountain
This special fountain contains a real wave pool. At certain times, there is a wave movement that is the same as the tide line of the sea.
The water is collected by the sloping edges on which the poem (from 1790) is written.
The artwork symbolizes the relationship between Katwijk, the sea and the fishing tradition.
