Beach tourism
Since the end of the 19th century, more and more visitors came to enjoy the healthy sea and clean air.
At that time guests who wanted to go for a swim, did not just walk into the sea.
They were taken to the sea in a bathing ‘carriage’ pulled by horses so they could bathe safely and sheltered, meaning that no one could see them in a bathing suit.
Eventually beach-tourism became the main source of income for the locals.
