Catch of the day
Back in the days the people of Noordwijk Zee; ‘the Noortukkers’, lived mainly from fishing.
Because there was no harbor, the fishermen’s boats had a flat bottom, which could land on the beach.
These boats were called ‘Bomschuiten’ (bomb-ships) named after the noise they made when landing.
Noordwijk’s fishery couldn’t compete with other coastal villages, like Katwijk and Scheveningen. Eventually the fishery disappeared.
Luckily a snack from a typical Dutch ‘viskar’ (fish-truck) is still part of the local culture.
