Mayor Pické gave a kickstart to Noordwijk as a seaside resort and took many initiatives to promote tourism.
The first hotel opened her doors in 1866, they had 4 bathing carriages available to their guests and also appointed the first lifeguard.
The hotel left of the monument, has a well-known name in Noordwijk.
This hotel is named after the original Palace Hotel, which tragically burned down.
