Quality fabric
This fabric, called Leids Laken, is a thick woolen fabric, used for e.g. coats and jackets.
It was internationally known as a fabric of high quality.
All Laken fabric was traded in the Lakenhal; a large inspection hall, which is unfortunately just outside our route.
But the beautiful building, now housing a museum, is definitely worth a visit.
Fortunately, you will find traces throughout the city from this rich period in which Leiden was the 2nd largest city of the Netherlands.
Let’s go find them!
