In the other house next to ‘d Oostersche Lamp also lived a bright man, who was known for his literary knowledge.

As one of the founders of the first Dictionary of the Dutch Language, he played an important role in defining our language.

An enormous lack in this book, in our opinion, is the Leiden word for pigeon: ‘Koekerroe.’

The Leiden accent is one of the most recognizable and beloved dialects of the Netherlands.

Especially the Leiden R is typical, it’s not a rolling R, but one that can best be compared with an American R.

Look around when you walk down the street and spot a halved 'Koekeroe'.

Around this 'Koekeroe' you can find one of the suits of  a cart-deck.

Which suit do we mean?
